Gymnastics for Kids in Beirut

Build strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence with kids' gymnastics classes at PowerBox in Furn El Hayek, Beirut.

Why Gymnastics Is One of the Best Sports for Kids

Gymnastics is often described as a "foundation sport" because the skills it builds — strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and body awareness — transfer directly to almost every other sport and activity a child might take up later. Unlike many sports that focus on a single skill set, gymnastics develops the whole body and the whole athlete.

For parents in Beirut looking for a class that builds real physical fundamentals rather than just keeping kids busy, gymnastics is one of the most effective options available.

What Age Should Kids Start Gymnastics?

At PowerBox, our kids' gymnastics program welcomes children from around age 4 and up. Younger children (4-6) join a more playful, movement-based class that introduces rolls, jumps, balances, and basic strength games. From around age 6-7, children typically move into a more structured class focused on specific skill progressions — handstands, cartwheels, beam work, and bar skills.

There's no "too late" to start — many of our students begin gymnastics for the first time at age 8, 9, or older and make rapid progress thanks to focused, age-appropriate coaching.

What Kids Gain From Gymnastics Training

  • Strength — bodyweight exercises scaled to each child's ability.
  • Flexibility — developed gradually and safely.
  • Balance and coordination — through beam, floor, and apparatus work.
  • Confidence — from mastering new skills step by step.
  • Discipline and focus — following routines and structured progressions.

If your child is brand new to the sport, our beginner gymnastics training page explains exactly what their first few classes will look like.

From Recreational to Competitive

Most children join our gymnastics program recreationally — training once or twice a week for fitness, fun, and skill development. For kids who show strong interest and ability, we offer a pathway toward more structured, competitive training. You can read more about what that pathway involves on our competitive gymnastics page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age should a child start gymnastics?

Children can start as early as 3-4 years old in a fun, play-based program that introduces basic movement skills. From around age 5-6, kids are ready for more structured classes that build toward specific skills like cartwheels, handstands, and balance work.

Is gymnastics good for boys?

Absolutely. Gymnastics builds the strength, power, and body control that benefit boys in almost any sport they go on to play, especially football, basketball, and martial arts. Many of our male students join gymnastics specifically to build upper-body and core strength for other activities.

How many times per week should children train?

One to two sessions per week is a great starting point for most kids and is enough to see steady improvement in strength, flexibility, and confidence. Children who enjoy it and want to progress faster — or who are working toward competitive gymnastics — often move to 3 or more sessions per week.

Does my child need to be flexible or athletic to start?

No. Flexibility, strength, and coordination are exactly what gymnastics builds — they aren't prerequisites. Our coaches start every child at their current level and progress from there, regardless of prior sports experience.
